Living Beaverton - Your guide to everything Beaverton

It is like riding a bike, you just never forget

If you think about this statement, it can have a lot to do with life and real estate. But what if you never have been on a bike before? Today was a special day for my little Shortstop. (I know you think I call her that because of my love of Baseball, but I actually call her that because she is very short and I'm always telling her to stop it!)

Today my little Shortstop got her first bike. How can you remember how do to do something that you have never done before? Maybe we should think of new agents this way. Maybe they should have training wheels also, so they don't fall over as so many of first year agents do.

These agents get on the real estate bike, fall over, and never get back on, because they didn't have the training. Some get lucky like I did when I first rode a bike. I didn't want training wheels, I thought it would be easy. I got on that bike went down a very steep hill, then I realized I had no idea how to stop this thing I was on. I took a corner in to a friend's ¼ mile long driveway and hit his garage. (Thank goodness no one saw me do it!)

But, the next day I was back on that bike and learned how to break, but how many others could have done that? Well, I think real estate is the same way. One out of one thousand agents that get in the business without those training wheels will make it down the hill without crashing, but the other 999 will crash and never get back on.

So, if you know a new agent, help put some training wheels on there career along with a nice princess helmet and give them the start they need... to know that it is just like riding a bike, once you learn, you just never forget.

And to my daughter... I hope you enjoy your new bike and thanks for the real estate lesson at the same time.

Have you ever heard the statement, "You are so ugly that your mommy would have to tie a steak around your neck to even get the dog to play with you" Well, can a city, or a part of a city, be that way? You know as an agent we can't steer… more
