Many farmers burn their crops after the season to give the soil a fresh start. Here we caught up one rather close, the look even bigger in person. (How they don't lose control, I will never know)

We have been in a burn ban off and on for years. I need to do a controlled burn badly on two places but everytime it is wet enough it is the wrong time of year to burn.
Burning is good for the soiul as long as the buildings don't get in the way?
We used to have miles and miles of fields of grass for seeds that were routinely burned, but the smoke was bad for tourism. Burning was banned and all the grass fields are now subdivisions!
Todd, You could sell this picture as a tornado destroying a farm, field burns are common place in Oregon along I-5. I will never get use to it...
I hope your day goes well,
Paul
I love seeing stuff like this. Very cool....very cool indeed.
The National Forest here has regular burns to control the underbrush from taking over. At least we're warned when it will happen.
Todd --- interesting photo --- one would be worried if you had not explained the situation.
Todd, We have controlled burns in our area several times per year as well. It is a little scary when you come upon one before you realize what it is! Have a great weekend!
California would like to be able to control the burn. Glad to live in an area that isn't so dry.
Todd's picture can substitute for an Oregon tornado since we seldom have the real thing here.
But his may be one of the last photo shots available. The legislature has been building up toward a total ban on field burning by grass seed growers for decades. This year they finally banned the practice. This is the last year.
Bad decision for grass seed growers and their world-wide customers. Good for Oregon asthma sufferers and maybe for tourism.
Hi Todd... the intensity and drama in photos like this one is incredible!
Hi Todd, Glad it wasn't anything dangerous for the area!
It is amazing how out of control this controlled burn acutally looks! I guess that's why I'm not a fireman:-)
Outlawing these burns is stupid! The burns add valuable nutrients to the ground that are needed to re-seed the earth. I love it when politicians who know nothing about farming get involved with their laws.
