Living Beaverton - Your guide to everything Beaverton

I got tired of being beat on the Wii bowling, so I decided to show my kids that I can still take them at the bowling alley.

Virtual bowling is nothing like real bowling! A two ounce controller will never feel or turn thes ame as a sixteen pound bowling ball. Now, I have to say, my kids have gotten pretty good at the Wii bowling and I don’t like losing, so it was time to show them that daddy had some mad skill on the real hardwood lanes!

We took everyone to Sunset lanes, mainly because I knew they had mechanical bumpers to make sure the kids didn’t end up with a gutter ball. (They drop down when a certain persons name appears on the score board.)

Well, I have to say, family bowling is fun and I just proved to my kids if they want to beat daddy in real life they better start practicing now, because I have my own ball and shoes and I used to play a lot in college!

If you are interested in having a fun night of bowling, I suggest you check out Sunset Lanes as they are a very clean and fun bowling alley. (I’m not abig fan of their pizza, but the atmosphere is wonderful and very family oriented.)

Aren't daddys suppose to let their kids win at just about everything?  Just kidding :)

Hi Todd. It's great that you went out. I notice some people stay indoors and "exercise" with their Wii. Hope you had lots of fun.

Sounds like fun! I had a push up contest with my daughter and she beat me, but her dad beat her!!! Win some and lose some!!!

Todd - I've been waiting for you to write this post after you had commented on mine about wanting to take the kids bowling.  It must have been so much fun for you play against them on your turf this time.

Bowling is one of those activities that really bring back the days of our youth - like drive ins?  Glad to see that you're bringing the kids along.

Todd-- this sounds like a great family night out --- I have only bowled a few times in my life, but thought it was fun.

My husband can still beat our fifteen year old daughter, but it is getting very very close.

My son beats me every time in those Wii games; now he has me jogging to it. That is the worst feeling every time he knocks me off the path.

Todd - Family bowling at one of our local bowling alleys, LAva Lanes in Medford, is a favorite thing for us to do, too. I think I do better on the Wii Bowling, though ;-)

Todd, I use to bowl when I was in my 20's...but haven't bowled since.  We do have a very nice bowling alley, perhaps I will start bowling again, that is, if I can get my hubby afraid from sports TV.

Todd - My 6 year old is a super star on Wii bowling and we found out he's pretty good at "real" bowling too.  I didn't think a 6 year old could score a 117, but he did.

Hi Todd - No video game can totally duplicate all of the sounds of the alleys. This is a great reminder for families to get out and experience life beyond the dimensions of their flat screen.

What great fun.  I agree we need to get out and bowl the Wii is fun but I need to hear the ball hit the lanes.

This is so funny because I had to do the same thing a few months back. My son kicks some serious tale at Wii bowling. He bowls a strike about 70% of the time. So, we had to check him out on the real lanes. He has certainly improved (not because of Wii) but I can still take him. :-) Chalk one up for the old guy!

OK, I do have to say this was a blast and beating the kids was even more fun. Now, how can I make them realize that daddy is really cooler with Beatles Rock Band... I guess I will have to take them to a Paul McCartney concert. I've been, but I think I can still rock a little bit harder than they can!
