Living Beaverton - Your guide to everything Beaverton

The Holidays are here, why not give the gift of life: Donate Blood!

When is the best time to giveblood? The answer to that is anytime! Anytime you can donate blood, there will always be someone who could use it.

But, as the holidays approach, why not give the best gift of all, the gift of life! My personal story is 20 years ago this year my dad had a liver transplant due to a rare liver problem. Thanks to someones donation of that liver and the blood transfusions needed during that surgery, I am happy to say my dad willbe celebrating a 20th extra Christmas with us this year.

Donate to the Red Cross

Your one donation could be the difference between life and death, especially if you have one of the more rare blood types. So, think about how you can contribute to the world and donate an hour of your time and a quart of your blood. You never know, the life you may save could be your own.

Here are the blood donation centers in Beaverton,Oregon, for this upcoming couple weeks. (Click on links for map) To save time call 503-528-5892 and make an appointment (available 8am-8pmM-F)

Todd, few people understand how short of shelf life blood has and blood donated this week won't be able to be used by the end of next week. Great post Todd!

Todd, This is great information to pass along and the benfits go on and on, as your dad is a true testimony to the power of giving! If you give blood in the a.m. remember to eat before going!

Help Your Team To Victory

Use these ideas to promote the Civil War : Rivals For Life blood drives and help lead your team to victory!

RIVALS FOR LIFE:
Eighth Annual
Civil War Blood Drive

Between November 5-21, 2009, the American Red Cross, Lane Memorial Blood Bank, Oregon State University Alumni Association and the University of Oregon Alumni Association will take part in a statewide, two-week campaign to increase community blood donations prior to the critical holiday period. This is the eighth consecutive year of the award-winning partnership.

Fans, students and alumni of both universities are encouraged to donate on behalf of their team November 5-21 at any American Red Cross or Lane Memorial Blood Bank blood drive in Oregon. The university with the most submitted ballots will be announced on this site prior to the Civil War game in Eugene on December 3. This friendly competition between both state universities brings fans and alumni throughout Oregon to local blood drives and helps raise the awareness of the constant need for blood across our region.

Your Chance To Win Tickets

All presenting donors are eligible to enter a drawing for two tickets to the Civil War football game in Eugene on Thursday, December 3rd. The drawing will be held on November 24.

Hi Todd-  I gave at the office!  Just kidding.  Thank you for the wonderful holiday reminder that it wouldn't take much to get out and do something for someone else - someone you don't even know.  I think that the spirit of that could take us so far...  --Sara in San Antonio

Giving blood is easy to do......and, given the qualifying questions which disqualify a lot of potential donors, it is truly a privilege.

Hi, Todd. Beaverton OR is lucky to have you. You are a member of the community in the truest sense of the word. What a wonderful post at just the right time, when people are thankful for all that they have and willing to give.
