Back in the 1920s and 1930s my Grandfather and Great Grandfather were considered rodeo stars. They made lots of money on the rodeo circuit. I remember going to many rodeos as a kid with my family and I enjoyed them a lot. There was always action going on and it was just like a rock concert.
But, somehow, in my 17 years of marriage, I had never taken my wife to a rodeo, well that was until this past weekend. I called my mom and dad, we all met up outside the gates, and we all went as a family. I figured with my dad’s farming background as a kid and the rodeo emersion course he had as a kid, he would be able to answer the questions I couldn’t for my kids.
The kids had a blast, as did my wife, and now she wants to go to more. They all loved the rodeo clown and the show! Here are the pictures from the fair and the rodeo. Oh, and for the record, large sows, just like our pot belly pig, will fall over if you rub their belly.

My daughter discovered just like our pig, rub their belly they fall
over!

This girl was helping direct traffic at the rodeo.
Who needs to police, we have her on duty!

Our MC for the night! He was pretty darn entertaining and kept the show
going!

The beautiful American Flag taken around the arena while John Wayne's
"Why I love America" played in the
background

They move fast even for my camera!

I was taking these shots of the very beautiful horses when my wife
pointed
out the princesses that were riding them. As I told my wife, she is so
stunnly beautiful,
that I didn't even notice the princesses on the horses. (LOL)

Todd,
You're talking my kind of talk now. DV is currently ranked 12 in the world rankings this year. We really enjoyed the NFR last year.
Glad your family enjoyed it.
Todd, how fun and what a great adventure for your family! ~ Susan
how cool to enjoy with your family...they'll remember it...i remember mine when i was very young & they had it in Madison Square Garden in NYC- it was very exciting since we had front row seats...the horse is stunning- i'm not sure that's what you were looking at though!
Those pigs are SOOOO large. Glad the family had a great time, seemed like a nice event.
Todd, As a young man I climbed on my share of bulls and loved doing it for whatever reason. My son and grandsons still have horses and enter roping contest at times. that is a very pretty horse and I like it's pink shirt.
A rodeo is something that I've never been to. Having grown up in NYC, there weren't many opportunities!
By the way, that little traffic cop girl is hysterical!
Todd,
Rodeos are made to be seen in person - just not the same as on TV. Good series. :)

Todd, my dad (now 85, but still strong) was a member of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Patrol back in the day, and these photos kind of take me back to the Jr. Rodeo shows they would sponser at the Patrol grounds during the summer. Good times. Especially during the 4th of July when they had the little kids chasing the greased piglets in the ring. Probabaly considered "un PC" by today's standards, but great fun at the time.
Todd - Was there grease on that pig? Americana is based on a good old fashioned Rodeo. Brought me back to a day when I attended and participated. Fun post
Todd, We go to at least 2 rodeos a year and the boys were riding before they could walk. The rodeos are great excitement for the family, especially the mutton busting, the kids hang on for dear life while riding their backs and then there's the chicken chase...! For those who have not met your wife, she is beautiful!
Hi Todd!

My uncle was a nationally known judge of quarter horses, so he was at rodeos a lot. I only got to attend one, but I have had the urge to go again, just for something out of the routine. Your post has given me some initiative to quit talking about it and finally do it! Thanks! (oh, and your daughter? REALLY cute!)
My favorite is the mutton bustin - love the little kids riding those crazy sheep. It's always so wild, LOL.
Great pictures Todd. I love your kids and the outfit. Thanks for sharing this.
It really was a blast and to Paula and Gabe, not my daughter. Just saw her down below us and couldn't help but take a picture as she just seemed to be in control.

Todd, What a great way to spend time with the entire family. Enjoyed the pictures.
Todd,
Congratulations on a great post. Now featured on "Speechless Sundays." :)
Steve
That is one huge pig, I'd rather rub its belly than get on one of those wild horses.
Todd, I love your photos! My favorite is the supersized pot-bellied pig! He's huge!
Good comment on the princesses.
I am a city boy, but now because of cable stations bringing rodeo to us, I have been enjoying watching rodeos. Your photos make me want to go and experience it live!
Todd,
I love the little girl directing traffic....I think that could of been me... :)
