What good timing – Thank you officer

Today, I was showing a condo in the condo conversion project I am selling, when a buyer came up and asked what the crime is like here. I started to give the NAR scripted result to this question, and low and behold, a police officer comes driving through.

This doesn't look to good and I am thinking to myself, "great there goes a sale". But, she stopped the officer and asked him how often he is at this complex. His answer made my heart skip a beat. "I'm here every day!"

WHAT? NO WAY! COME ON! Are you trying to kill me, officer? Then he says "You see this is the last driveway before I leave the city limits and since it is a circle drive way, I just drive in that driveway and pull out the other one and head back toward town."

OH, thank goodness! Then he says, "I actually haven't been at this complex in over a year on a call." OK - Mr. Police officer, how do I get your pager number and have you come here every time I get this question? You may have just made this sale for me!

Luck like this doesn't happen very often, but when it does, I will take it!

Great Story!  Great post.  Did you get the officer's business card?  Send him a thank-you.  He will remember you and your complex.

Todd - very funny and lucky for you!  As a wife of a 20 year patrol officer, that was priceless.  By the way, what exactly is the NAR script for that question?  I always send them the link to the crime statistics in the jurisdiction the buyer is looking in and a phone number for crime prevention.  What does NAR expect you to say?

Very nice!  I hate nothing more than showing a home that has some sort of a 'crappy' (decipher for yourself) neighbor that kills the sale....

Well that was a stroke of luck. I thought he was going to say he lived there. Very funny:)

That's Awesome!  You gotta love those guys!  I once got pulled over because I wasn't going the speed limit...and no I wasn't under but anyway he walked up to my car saw my magnet (which I don't use anymore) asked if I was a Realtor and I said, "sure...I have the District Attorney's house on the market right now....would you like to see it"? Quick Wit...No Ticket!

Nice timing! You never know what someone will spurt out! We had a neighbor tell our tenant that there was a suicide in the house - there wasn't but he just wanted to cause trouble. Unbelievable!

I worked at convenience stores to pay for college. I ALWAYS gave away sodas and coffee to the police. I WANTED them around as much as possible.

Christine - I didn't know police officers had business cards! I will watch for him since he is here pretty much everyday and ask him for one.

Lonn- Got tired of the negativity at ReLib from certain parties and just wasn't getting any business from it. As for the logo I got it from a company that does website clipart and logos.

Ricardo - I'm glad it went the way it did also! It easily could have went the other way.

Irene - In a nutshell, Sorry I can't advise you if a neighborhood has high crime or is a good neighborhood as it is all perspective, but I can give you websites wear you can look up that information on your own.

Kaushik- Hey, I live in that condo project - lol (Or decipher yourself neighborhood as you called it)

Bryant - I lived here a month and I haven't seen him!

Shannon - That was quick thinking, can I use that?

Todd or Danielle - So when the murder next door happened, how did you cover that up on the disclosure - lol

Jonathan - It does look like it did!

Donna - No contract yet, but we did send in her paperwork for a pre-approval letter from the bank.

Steve - Timing like that just doesn't happen! I should buy a lotto ticket!

Nicole - Thank You

Tom - You were one smart man! My wife did the same in high school.

Jeff - Once a year, try once a lifetime!

Rick - If I get this sale he will have a dozen donuts sent to the station! (GLAZED AND FILLED!!)

This is such a cool post!  Officer Friendly strikes again!
Posted by Patricia Kennedy (Evers & Company Realtors) over 4 years ago

Your just lucky that my father or step mother wasn't the officer that your client was talking to!  My dad & or step mom would have told them something crazy to have them jumping in their cars and never looking back.  (They are both police here in MD, and have quite a crude sense of humor!)

But seriously...you are lucky that he pulled up just then.

Good story, and you were lucky.  If there's a neighbor around, outside, and I think we're not intruding, I usually ask, in front of my customer, how they like living there and the news may not be good for me, but it's certainly good for my customer.  After all, isn't that what's most important?

Patricia - I wish it was officer friendly I might have remembered that name. Now, I'm on patrol watching for him so I can thank him - lol

David - I'm glad it wasn't them either!

Patsy - I do similar things when in a neighborhood then I send them a thank you note the next day and add them to my mailing list. This has got me 1 listing in the past. The problem here is that I'm really the only neigbor and I'm bound by law to not tell them - lol
