Living Beaverton - Your guide to everything Beaverton

Beaverton Oregon Parks: Eichler Park

This is a nice park, but I do have to say I have mixed feelings about it. Not because of what they have, but mainly its location and the people who are always at the park. Normally when you think of a Beaverton, Oregon Park you think of a great place for young kids. But, this park seems to have more teenagers than young kids.

You see when you are a parent of a small child, you tend to want to stay away from parks with a large number of teenagers
, not because they are bad, but maybe just because teenagers tend to be less careful sometimes when playing and if they aren’t paying attention, you child could be hurt. But, also if the kids do decide to become a little mis-behaved, better be safe than sorry, I always say.

The park does have a community garden, lots of great toys for the young children, but what is drawing the older kids? Well there are a few factors, the first and the biggest is that it has a dirt bike track that the teenagers love to use. The second is it is located near an apartment complex, letting teenagers come to this park without having to hitch a ride from mom and dad. But, the last and biggest one is it is within walking distance of the school property. So, once school lets out, the teenagers tend to go to this park to let off steam.

So, this park does have something for everyone and if you are interested in a show of great bike riding, then this is the park for you. But, If you are like me, you may want to rethink this park if you have young children.

We have a great park in my neighborhood Todd but the tweens and high school kids like to "take over " the place. I always have a kid eyeing my bike. Twice I had to chase kids away from taking it...

Todd - you are right that there are vaious definitions of a "great park".  Depends on who you are, and what you intend to do there.

It really is a great little park, just has the wrong location.

A bunch of teen agers on bikes? Often a pack of trouble....even in the country park in sight.

Even way back when I was one of them.

There is a large park in Franklin.  It has something for everyone.  I love the park and yes my teens go there with kids from their youth group every Sunday afternoon after church.  Sometimes we have a tendency to make assumptions that aren't always accurate about teens.  Adult supervision is the best way to keep younger kids safe if we have concerns.
