Living Beaverton - Your guide to everything Beaverton

I have the best neighbor anyone can ask for!

I'm living in an investment property of mine right now while I fix it up and sell the other 38 units in the condo conversion project for the owner. Well, I've heard of neighbors like this, but in the past 20 years of living on my own, I've never experienced it!

Let me tell you about my neighbor Bonnie! Bonnie is a wonderful 78 year young lady who has lived in the complex for the past 20 years and has never been late with her rent. The owner loves her so much as well, that he bought her unit and told her she could stay and he would never increase her rent as long as she wants to stay.

Bonnie has the most beautiful yard and she did it all herself including the grass trees. She watches out for everyone. Tonight she saw a door that was left open and she thought maybe the person had left for work and didn't shut it all the way. Another unit was vacant and had a light that was flickering very weirdly. Because she was concerned, she came and knocked on my door and wanted me to check things out. Sure enough the door was left open by the unit's owners and would have stayed open all night long had she not noticed when doing her nightly walk.

As for the light, it was a short and had she not noticed it, there might have been a fire tonight. The plastic was starting to melt at the base of the light bulb and surely would have caught fire had she not noticed it.

This isn't the first time I have seen her watching out for other residences, even if it could have endangered her. A couple weeks ago, I was dumping a larger item in the dumpster late at night and didn't realize it had been emptied earlier in the day and it made a loud crash and she thought someone was breaking into one of the other units. She was out there within seconds checking to see what was going on.

I'm very grateful to have such a wonderful neighbor and feel safer for having her around. I can only hope I have neighbors like this in the future. I feel kind of spoiled by her now and now know why people don't want to move when they get neighbors such as her.

What kind of neighbor are you?

What a great neighbor.  Most people today would consider her a nusiance, but I for one would love to have her as my neighbor.  You are a very lucky guy.

Thanks for the post ... it is a great reminder that there are still really good people in this world that are willing to think beyond their own best interest.  Also proves a great point that good deeds are returned in spades

What a wonderful the new owner of the unit did for Bonnie.  And yes, it is a great feeling knowing that your neighbors are looking out for one another.

Todd - I have the most awesome neighbor who watches out for us and others on our street. Before I got into real estate I used to work a lot of overtime at my job. When she knew I had been working a lot, I would come home and have a complete homecooked meal on my stove, complete with dessert. She makes the absolute best banana pudding anywhere! She's the best!

she sounds like a nice neighbor to have...I've had some interesting neighbors throughout the years. I did have a sweet older lady that lived next door but she moved about 2 years ago...haha.

What a nice neighbor you have Todd...we've got one similiar...we left our garage door open once when we left on a long weekend...she drove by and saw not only it open but the door from the garage into the house open, and our van gone.  So she went inside to check things out...all was ok (fortunately, as she could have interrupted a robbery in progress)...and she called us to see if we had intentionally left the doors open....we were so thankful...it would of been days before we got home and anything could of happened.

Bonnie sounds like she is deserving of bouquet of flowers from the owner!   You gotta love a good neighbor.

Sweet!  I know my neighbors, but I would not exactly call them "great".  In fact, the one across the street is a little bit odd...

Todd,

We don't have much control over our neighbors, so when we get a good one like Bonnie we should be thankful!!! Thanks,   Fran

Todd - Your neighbor sounds like such a sweet caring lady.  I have one like that and feel so fortunate.

Todd, What a sweet lady, you are lucky to have her as a neighbor.  I think people are either too busy or too afraid to be neighborly these days.  It is nice to know that there is a few good ones left!

Brenda or David - I agree she is wonderful.

Allen - I certainly watch her place more than most.

Nancy - I would like to meet him one day and thank him for letter her stay also.

Linda - That was a nice neighbor! I'm not sure I would have ever moved!

Rick - I guess she didn't like her neighbor - lol

Mary - You were really lucky!

Missy - Based on what you said, I just printed it out and took it to her!

Chad - I would say so!

Marlene - Thank you, that means a lot! Made me feel pretty good.

Jonathan - Weird, I was talking to him and he said the same thing about you! - lol

Fran - I think when I move, I may have to buy the house next door so she can move in next to us, just to keep her.

Candy - They are far and few between aren't they.

Roberta - I'm glad she isn't affraid to speak her mind. She just wants to keep the neighborhood safe for everyone.
