Well, I got another call today from a friend of mine who hasn't made the jump to owning a home and is planning a move back... home? Don't ask me how they can handle that at almost 40, but mom's basement must be fun!
Now, the call goes something like this...
Friend: What you doing this weekend?
Me: Showing some homes and holding a couple open houses. Why? What's up?
Friend: Oh, just moving back home with mom and dad and need some help moving. I've rented a U-haul and have invited everyone over for pizza and beer.
Me: Sorry, won't be able to help labor wise, but if you need an extra trailer, I can lend you mine along with the trailer hitch.
Friend: Thanks, but I think the U-haul should be able to handle it.
Me: Sorry, I couldn't help! Is there anything else I can help you with?
Friend: No, it's alright, just thought I would try.
Now, for you people out there thinking that this sounds like a good idea, these people have known me for years and every one of them knows that first of all... I DON'T DRINK! Not a good start to your U-haul party, which is looking more like a me-haul party, that is going to leave me with a sore back and help you move back to your parents basement.
Just a side note - Chicks dig that when you say you live in your parents basement. May I also suggest you pick up some beer lamps for a better atmosphere for the ladies.

Todd,
I didn't use to drink either until this present real estate market...now I can't get enough cranberry juice!!! Thanks, Fran
I'd show up for the pizza and beer but I am not lifting anything! And yes I own an F-150, but its not for lending out either. After many years or this attirude people stop asking me now. I pay to have my stuff moved and delivered, not moving somebody elses stuff!
I think if I asked to move back in with mom (or any of her kids), I think she would rather whip out a checkbook than allow it. I could not even imagine asking such a thing! And as far as the chicks digging it, he don't need to be talking to them, its just another expense. The only chick he needs to talk to is the hiring manager for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd job HAHAHA!
Todd,
Why do all our friends always think that pizza and beer is the international gesture to make us break our backs and spend countless hours moving them. The last 2 times I moved, I hired a moving company. My buddies would ask, "do you want us to help you move", and I replied "No I don't need your help I hired someone as I suggest you do the same when you move", They got the hint and now I never have my friends ask me to help them move. Great Post that we can all relate to.
Carol - I do know exactly where Corbett is, that is exactly 10 minutes from my office! Done many a wedding events there and got some great stories of a wedding on the hill, but that is for a different blog - lol
Bill - That is when you lend them the truck and say have a nice day, I'm busy!
Michael - I think the plan was AFTER the move the get the beer and pizza! - lol
Chad - I had my mother-in-law live with us for a little over a year last year after her divorce and I can tell you NO absolutely NO relative will be living with us ever again longer than a weekend stay! Then I still may just pay for the hotel for them.
Chris - I'm glad I could give you a chuckle on your Saturday morning.
James - I will suggest that, hey wait that is what I looked like in High School, what are you saying that with my 1969 Mustang and Mullet I wasn't a chick magnet?
Kathy - Not getting any closer to that party! They can borrow my trailer, but they need to come pick it up!
Marlene - I think I may have to rent that movie to see what you are talking about. And as for the lamp, I'm embarrassed to say, I didn't drink, but had a segrams lamp in my living room at college. BABE MAGNET!
Debbie - It is very important to match the colors of the lamp with the wall colors or it just won't work.
Gary - I'm not sure that some of my friends will ever get the hint.
Kathy - Uh, I'm on vacation that week - lol
Mehmet - I'm not sure there is an appropriate food for asking someone to help you move! And you are right about the moving in to Mom's basement completely different story.
