Living Beaverton - Your guide to everything Beaverton

Congrats to the Hillsboro Bandits!

Tonight I was very proud of our little underdogs! They were one of the lowest ranked teams in the championship, but a couple weeks ago we played a heated game against a coach and team that didn’t mind cheating. (We won that game 12-7)

But, after the game the other coach was overheard telling his team that our team sucks and we just got lucky. Our boys didn’t like hearing that and either did us parents! Since that game our boys have gone undefeated and today we got a rematch against that same coach who heard it from us when he showed up and even the league president was there to make sure things went smoothly!

Well, our boys did it again and showed that coach that our boys don’t suck and are just the better team in class and play! (They did try cheating again today, but they were caught every time!) So, what does this mean for the Bandits? Well, it means tomorrow night they get one last game and it is for all the marbles, they are in the Championship game and no matter what happens, we are proud of them!

Hi Todd,

Looks like you might need a new coach. Attitude is everything. Congrats winning it all.

Have a great week ahead in Oregon.

Best, Clint McKie

There are several lessons here.

Congratulations Bandits.

I'm reminded of what Art Fettig said about "Luck."

"It's always luck, ask any losser!"

Personally I think that other team lost allot more than a ball game.

My first job was at our rec dept as an umpire as a teen and I was so surprised how heated it got...lighten up folks, its just a game and think about what you are teaching your kids!  Glad to hear your team took the high road and won!

Todd -- congratulations to the Hillsboro Bandits -- cheaters never win in the long run --- best of luck and lots of fun at the Championship Game.

Just like real estate, not everyone behaves well in baseball. Congrats to the Bandits.

Todd~baseball can teach a lot of lessons about life and your kids have just learned another one. Ethics, honesty and being good sports make an all-around successful child who later becomes a wonderful adult.

So....did they win?

Good for you!

But the more important concern is the behavior and conduct of the other coach who is supposed to set a good example and provide guidance. Hope his charges don't develop bad attitudes. Ditto for their parents.

Todd - Congrats to the team.  As far as the other team, I'm trying to think of what they were trying to do to cheat.

And Happy Father's Day, my man!

So Todd, How did they do?  It is always good to shut up loud mouthed, and cheating people!  I hope that the Bandits did well!

OK, sorry, just got back online last night. We moved and we had no internet for a few days. Now, are boys didn't win the championship game, but they did play their hearts out! The team that won the championship game had never had a game closer than 18-4, they beat us 8-7 and we were ahead the entire game until the last inning when they got a hit that brought the winning run home for them.

They congratulated our boys for being the first to scare them and told some of the boys they were welcome on their team anytime.

Congrats to your team, great result for both teams and sportsmanship too.  And I saw Hillboro is going to be home to a minor league team too.

OK let me get this straight - the "Bandits" are the honest team!  :)

My 7 year old played at Pinto Jr. level this year - no umpires etc. and it amazes me how far some coaches will go to win at this level.

Congratulations Hillsboro Bandits! What a great human interest story. I'm sick of all the bullying going on. Children live what they learn, but not with this time. The Bandits make a GREAT team! They took the high road and they are paving the way towards success.

I love this story!!!

I wish your story could be featured on the cover of Time or Life Magazine.
