What your ringtone on your phone says about you

I used to have "Our house" by the group Madness, as a ringtone, but recently I went back to using the standard AT&T ringer. I don't know why, I just did. But, what other people could you think of that could use ringtones to say what they do?

I bring this up, because I was talking about ringtones with someone when we heard a news report about an arsonist who was arrested, and wondered if we called him right now, would we hear "Burning Down the House" by the Talking Heads coming from his pants pocket.

Think about it, a funeral director could use "Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo, car dealers could use, "Drive my Car" by the Beatles. A Doctor could use "Bad Case of Loving You" by Robert Palmer... You know how it starts..."Doctor, Doctor, give the news...

So, help me establish a list of the songs that best fit what profession.

Because I'm a quirky girl, I have quirky ringtones.  One agent in my office said to me that she felt it was unprofessional to have anything other than a plain ring tone, and I said that frankly, I think it's boring and I'd rather have personality than to be professional.  She now has a music tone.  ha!

I pick tones for the season, or for my mood, rather than "profession."

Right now, it's The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly because it's an awesome sounding music and reminds me of my favoritest movie.

Other times, I have had:

Halloween (that gets LOTS of comments)

Hawaii 5-0 (book em, Dano)

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

The Pink Panther

James Bond Theme

Loony Tunes (hubby says this one is the best one.  wonder why?)

MARK!  Ah! Sooo Funny!  Ringtone for Realtors "I will survive" LOL! Wow! That is the silliest comment yet...well anyway I do not plan on using a ringtone on any phone...I use my voice inflection and give my daily schedule on my voice mail so my customers here in Delaware know what I am doing on a day to day basis.  Hope that helps!

On a separate note, I have noticed that I tend to look at people a bit differently when I hear a crazy song coming from their phone.  Madness' "Our House" would not qualify as crazy, just fun.  I have heard unrecognizable hip hop songs from agent phones - professional?

Todd,

What career would choose, "Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight?" Thanks,   Fran

P.S. Or how about, "Zombie Jamboree"?

Stef: "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"

My Hubby: "Cuppy Cake"

My primary ringtone is Ozzy's "Dreamer".

One for this profession....hhmmmm....lets see..."Respect". That's it!

Patsy Cline's "Crazy"

My brother turned 50 and bought a Harley Davidson- "Born to be wild"

Good stuff!  :4:

Posted by Shannon Ziccardi-"A Quick Note" Mobile Notary ("A Quick Note") about 4 years ago

I have always stayed with the standard ring too. Probably because of the many times I have heard phones ring with something that sounded unprofessional or just downright unpleasant.

Who knows? Maybe if I go on vacation I'll set my ringer to something "wild and crazy". In the meantime, I'll just listen to music when I want to.

Besides, if I liked the song so much, why would I answer the phone? I'd just listen to the song until the call got sent to voicemail. What good is that?

Todd - my first thought was "Take this Job and Shove It"...... I have a demented mind.   That might be a good ring tone for "no caller id" incoming calls that are usually telemarketers calling us on our cell phones.

Todd- I have a different song for each one in my family (each one's fav) of course my daughter's is a Fall Out Boy didee. My husband has my voice recorded on his for when I call and I am abnoxiously saying "pick up your phone pick up your phone." (just like real life!)

This is a very interesting topic!  I have separate ringtones for friends, real estate, unknowns, etc.  I never had the chance to download different ringtones so I just went with what came with the Treo.  I have Blues 12 Bar for friends - okay, for those of you with a Treo go find it and listen.  I now have the ringtone known as the stripper ringtone.  Everyone that hears it kinda gives me a funky look - i just smile and wave....WHO KNEW?

Hey Todd,

I have basic ringtones on my phones right now.  You have inspired me to change them!

My last phone had a very cool guitar rift for a ring tone.  That got people's attention.   I once kept the standard ringtone on my phone.  One day a phone rang at the office, four of us jumped - that was when I knew I had to change.

Let's see...

Anesthesiologist - 'Wake Me Up before You Go Go'  Wham

Postal Worker - 'Handle with Care'  Travelling Wilburies

I have an agent that uses "She works hard for the money" for calls from her family. Occasionally, it will ring when a client is present - everyone laughs and thinks it's appropriate for what we do.

Gosh:  My sisters ring-tone for me is "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!"

My main ring-tone is "All I wanna do is have some fun!"

I have thought about putting "Dirty Deeds (done dirt cheap)" on my phone, as I had to Notarize the darn things all day long... and it seems like a lot of closings I have had in the last few months have been those for Divorced individuals that had to sell their property due to the Divorce.  LOL!

Sometimes I wonder about my own sense of humor....  maybe I need a shrink!!

Todd, I'm not really into the whole crazy song ringtone thing.  I've got my phone set to an old fashioned phone ring.  It actually sounds like a traditional phone way back before all the bells and whistles.  No standard company jingle, no electronic sound, no music, but a good old RING.

I always find it funny to hear a song coming from someone's phone and always think about breaking out in dance...

Jamming to the ringtones! And believe it or not, my graphic down below says "jamberry"

I like the idea of ring tones.  I have some to identify friends and family but I do need to put one for normal calls.  I think I want to put "Our House: Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

I know a Realtor that has the ring-tone of Money by Pink Floyd. I don't think that sends a very positive message to clients. Mine is a calm ambient ditty that most people say is soothing. When your phone rings a lot you don't want something loud or potentially annoying to the client you are with.

;)

Karen - Is it wrong to have "Our House", "Brick House" or my favorite... "They're coming to take me away"

Fran - No one is perfect. (ROFL)

Mark - I had the "They're coming to take me away" for the longest time... It seemed so fitting for me.

Ralph - I loved "In Like Flint" that movie was awesome and I think it had a lot to do with James Coburn though and less of the plot of the movie itself.

Roberta - I love the Beatles, yet I've never had one for a ringtone.

Sheree - What about "You take my breathe away" Berlin? Do you think "Free Fallin' by Tom Petty would be a bad one for a rock climber?

Fran - Only if you worked for Trident.

Lissa - Respect, we are going to get that anytime soon. One of my clients just set a ringtone for me about a house from some new group I have never heard of.

Shannon - That would be a great song when it comes to pricing or for buyers looking for a home.

Judy - You programed to sound like a phone? What is wrong with you, don't you know it is a phone? (Wait, you are the sane one)

Sheree - I could use that right now...(LOL) What about "Mama said Knock you out" by LL Cool J

Shannon - I'm not sure I would like a phone that would just start rining for no reason, that would drive me nuts.

Benjamin - Maybe that is why they have them, they don't want to answer the phone... 1/2 don't anyway.

Michael - Come on... Date music has to be either Barry White or Marvin Gaye, there is a law you know.

Christine - I've had some sellers I would love to send that song too!

Dick - I graduated Tigard High School - Home of the Tigers, so that song is special to us... I like you!

Betina - Why don't they just put on their ringtone... "Been caught stealing"

I looked this up to find out ringtones I could use. The only one that I came up with on my own (personally I'm an Aretha fan) was "This is the house that Jack built y'all, remeber this house" Gotta love some Aretha! Still trying to find some more creative tones. I've noticed in my office that ringtones with no words- just music (such as the good, bad, and ugly) seem to be popular. Maybe I can find some Elvis, Journey, or Kinks type of music. People love the oldies!

Posted by Kelsey DeChaine 11 days ago

Since I wrote this one there are now ringtone creators. You take the song and the software makes it in to a ringtone file. Real easy to use!
