I am really lucky to have all my family really close and we can all get together for every holiday. But, today didn't go quite as planned! You see, my sister is a day care owner and the basement of her house is a treasure trove of play toys. So, the kids really enjoy going there every chance they get.
But, today after dinner was served and dishes were being washed, for some reason the hot water pressure dropped in the kitchen. My sister didn't think anything of it, but when her husband turned on the water, he knew something was wrong and ran downstairs to the basement to see the kids laughing and splashing in the ½ inch of warm water on the floor.
A pipe off the hot water, in the wall (of course), had burst and flooded the basement and the kids just thought it was fun, they didn't realize something was wrong. Then, for the next three hours, all the grown ups got to use the wet/dry vacuum, use up all the towels in the house, and cut holes in the wall to find the broken pipe.
My poor brother in law had a very expensive problem on his hands that is looking like it was caused by too much pressure on the pipe. Lucky for him, we had a plumber over for dinner and he was able to give us a break down of what had happened and what needs to be done to fix it. But, being Sunday night and Easter, not a lot of stores that carry the pipes we needed were open.
But, that is cleaned up and Easter is over. I'm just grateful we have each other and we were all able to be there to help. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter with their families and continue to have a wonderful year.

What an awful thing to happen. I'm just glad the kids didn't get burned.
I suppose the good news is it was discovered soon than later and it was a basement not under a slab!

Priceless - it will be an Easter the kids remember forever. And a plumber on site no less! Would this be covered by insurance? Still a mess!
Todd - you know, you will all look back on this and laugh - especially the kids. It could have been So much worse; imagine if this had happened while they were on vacation for two weeks - they would have come home to a moldy moldy mess!
These are the kinds of things that those of us without an extended family miss out on. My brother lives 3000 miles away near Seattle, haven't seen him in 13 years...my hubby's sister is 1000 miles away in St. Louis and we only get together once every couple of years. Our parents are gone, and we went to Perkins for brunch yesterday...my youngest ended up socking my son in the nose, and I couldn't stop laughing while Daddy was trying to lecture sternly...then we came home. The dog was waiting, no burst pipes (but our basement has flooded many times in the past)...just quiet and uneventful.
Sometimes, I wish we had some family to share events with - even if it's something like this.
*sigh*

Jason - The kids thought this was the coolest daycare ever and wanted to come to my sisters everyday.
Ryan - He helped stop the problem, but it was sad that nothing was open.
Karen S - It was my sisters house and she didn't know anything about the bunny until this year, she was 8 at the time and my grandfather didn't tell her what we were having.
Karen M - The Easter bunny story was from last year. Let's just say my grandfather had a sense of humor he passed on to me.
Marlene - It was wrong, but when I was 12, it was funny!
Randy - They are still talking about it a year later wondering if we can go back to the daycare.
Linda - I'm glad they didn't get burned either. Had the pipe broke in that room rather than the next I'm sure they would have.
Patricia - Your whole house has been replaced, not because you wanted it to, but it did!
Cynthia - Oh, I can't even imagine had it been a pipe under a slap, dry wall can be replaced.
Tom - It really was, every toy in the house was drenched along with every kid.
Jennifer - I'm just glad we had a good dinner and the stove didn't break... I don't like missing out on food, as you have seen. (LOL)
Fran - We seem to have enough stories already, so they can stop now.
Jesse - All he could do was shut off the water though, he couldn't fix it that day because of all the stores being closed.
Judi - Yes, it was covered by the insurance, thank goodness, it cost nearly $8,000 to fix everything and get the place cleaned up.
Karen - It has been just over a year and that is exactly what we remember is the kids laughing and splashing and not the actual mess and clean up.
Debbie - I'm not sure it would have happened if my sister hadn't been washing dishes at the time, but you just never know.
Maureen - It really was, he knew exactly where the shut off for that pipe was.
