Have you ever listed a house that the owner is moving because they hate the neighbor? You certainly don't want to tell a prospective buyer that the person is selling because the neighbor is an ASS, but sometimes the buyer knows who the neighbor is and still buys.
I hate to hear on the news that a person who bought a home near the airport is trying to get the flight path changed because he hates the sound of the planes going overhead. WHAT? Are you an idiot? Didn't you notice the directional signs to the airport in front of your house when you bought it? Too bad, so sad, the airport was there first.
Well, here comes some more idiocy thanks to some homeowners that thinks their neighbors are too loud and smell. Farmers in Oregon are selling their land to developers because it can be huge profit. Then the developer builds a sub-division that, of course, is surrounded by other farms.
Well, after the house is built, a buyer who buys one of these homes starts to complain about the smell coming from the farm and that the tractors from the farm start up at 6am. Well of course they do you idiots, these farmers are trying to get your food to market, so you can eat and have milk with your dinner.
If you don't want sound, smell, or whatever next to you or around you, then you need to do your due diligence before you buy and not try to sue the person who has owned the land next to you for over 100 years. You are the new comer and you should just keep your mouth shut or sell!

I don't blame you for sounding off. Homes are subject to pre-existing surroundings. On a similar note, I had a woman call me to list her home because the drive out and back home through a less affluent neighborhood was too depressing. That older section of town was there long before the new area adjacent.
We sold a place because the neighbor harrassed us so much - plus they fought constantly and the police were out seems like daily. We did disclose it to the new buyers - they were using it as rental. Seller (female) ended up about 6 months after our selling ours killing her male companion (husband?) in their place. It was all over the news here. We were glad we were out.

Although...I do know a lawyer (father of one of my best friends exes...so it's not one of those "someone told me") that spent about a half million on a house in the late 80's or early '90's that was in a new community built next to the county landfill. He organized the other residents and they were successful in shutting down the landfill and having it turned into a park. The values in the neighborhood shot up almost overnight. It was always a part of his plan and it worked. Of course, him being a lawyer had lots to do with it, I am certain.
Oh and I happen to live about 3 miles from BWI. The flight path of big jets is directly over my house. They are usually at about 2,000 to 3,000 feet when they cross over. I knew I was close to the airport and didn't mind, but I had no idea that the jets would be so close overhead. I never saw them the two times I looked at the house. Luckily, when inside you can hardly hear them...however, it's a whole different story when you're in the back yard. Being so closed, I would think that all of these houses were soundproofed? The only time it even bothers me is when I am trying to talk on my phone while in the backyard. Otherwise, I am cool with it.

That's exactly why, in Frederick County we have a "Right to Farm" ordinance. Buyers have to sign a disclosure that farms stink, are noisey and can draw flies. We also have a county disclosure stating the airport location. Then there are those who bought homes next to both a police and private firing range and are shocked at the sound of gunfire. I suppose those are the same buyers who didn't realize the carpet was ugly until after settlement.
I have people suing each other as neighbors. It's ridiculous. If that were the case, then I'd definitely move. I want to enjoy my neighbors.
We have an area in out town near the airport where there have been some commercial buildings for years. One of them houses a cabinet making business. After the business had been there for awhile someone started building large, expensive homes with hangars where you can taxi your small plane to your house. Fine. But the homeowners then wanted the cabinet maker (who employs quite a few locals) to stop the noise from his business. The fight went on for years and got rather nasty. Last I heard the business owner had to put up some kind of noise screen. No, I don't think its right at all. Nobody told them to live there.
Todd: The clueless buyers! Got to love them. Always represented by the clueless agent that tells them information contrary to reality. Or, they are unrepresented and buy every bit of BS the builder is shoveling in their direction.

Well no one ever told us those were farms! How we were to know? I can hear it now. It has to be someone else's fault.
We have one person who bought a house next to a boyscout camp, and then complained that the camp was (gasp) filled with kids all summer, with their noise. She even made the front page of the paper, claiming she didn't realize just how annoying those little boys could be.
You said it Todd! So much nonsense I just can't believe how little people research before buying their homes!
Todd I have to smile with knowledge, knowing well that this happen a lot when city folks want to live in the country. Or when the city expands into the farm belt, then the lifestyle clash.
Todd, I have never understood the buyer that is fully informed about his new property and then decides it should be changed now that he lives there.

Jesse - That is exactly what I am talking about and people like that should be taken out in the woods tied to a tree and let the wild animals explain how things work in the real world. You come to our neighborhood, don't tell me to change it!

Leslie - See that is the kind of crap I'm talking about. These people buy in these areas to save money, and then sue to make their property more valuable. I think they should not only have to pay a fine for their stupidity, but pay the business owner for wasting their time.
Chris - But, when you are buying next to a farm or an airport, how can you not see it and claim you didn't see it. It is just stupid, don't punish the person who has lived there for 100 years, you move!
Yep. We had someone move into a rural property next to a BOY SCOUT camp here and then complained about the noise level each summer! She knew about the camp being there before she bought it.
