Living Beaverton - Your guide to everything Beaverton

I still say Merry Christmas to anyone and everyone…Do you?

Photo Courtesy of WoodsyTo me this sounds like a silly question and the same with my friends who are even of different religious backgrounds from me
. They tell me that it's what I believe in and they would never be offended by me wishing them a Merry Christmas, just as I'm not offended by them wishing me a Happy Hanukkah and having dinner with them and eating Kosher.

So, this is the announcement of a new group...The "I'm in real estate and I'm proud to say the words "MERRY CHRISTMAS"" group. This group will only be taking posts from November 28th through January 31 of each year. These posts will be for real estate success stories or just Christmas stories that end with you wishing your clients and friends a Merry Christmas proudly and not being afraid to say it in public.

There is no "HOLIDAY TREE" at the Clark household and I hope there isn't one at your house either.

Todd- I love that idea. Well, we say Merry Tossmas to all the retailers catalogs and advertisements who do not say Merry Christmas on them.:) Did you see that great video on Focus on the Family site? I will not give a dime to a retailer that is worried about offending the 5% that are aethiests. I have never met a Jewish person who was offended just like you say,  I eat Kosher with them. We have over 48% Jewish population in our county and they will even say Merry Christmas back to us. I am proud that I know the reason for the season. I am not ashamed to use my Freedom of speach right to say so and if they want to boycot me that is not going to stop me.

Todd:  Holiday Tree.  Uh huh.  I know so many people of many religious "persuasions"... and cannot think of even ONE of them that balks at either wishing or being wished a Merry Christmas.  All this silly boycott talk... and the furor that most times goes along with it... honestly... I have never run into it.  I think it's all made up.  Either that... or I am not on the same planet.

You mention the Focus on the Family site.  I really don't know where they get that stuff.  At times the suspicious side of me really wonders about it.  I have just never, ever run into it.  Anyhoo... Merry Christmas to you and your family... five weeks early... but who's counting ?

Todd- Our local elementary school here had a skit about the first Thanksgiving and the kids dressed up as pilgrims and native americans. It was really cute, then I get on Twitter and read a Tweet about how in their town, (where it was I did not catch,) the school kids were banned from dressing up as pilgrims or Native americans.  Go figure!

Katerina:  I know you and I have some political things we see differently... but this case you mention is just goofy.  How in the world can anyone in their right mind find anything wrong with that ?  Duh !

I am not saying Merry Christmas this year...nadda...negative...not gonna happen...

the correct response form a Mexican beach is Felice Navidad!  There is nothing like seeing Poinsettias growing outside, goes nice with the Margaritas!

I love it!  Up to last year, I was worried about being PC.  I decided if someone took offense, it was their problem, not mine.  It's always  a Christmas tree at our house!  It's my favorite part of Christmas.

Merry Christmas is in my heart and that is the greeting I give others this time of year!! Of course Felice Navidad would do if I am south of the border!!

I have a client that was fired from Coldstone's because she refused to say Happy Holidays.  She said she was a Christian and no job was going to change that.  They fired her and we have never went to Coldstone's ever again.

My daughter, just yesterday, told me how she went to the mall and they wished her happy holidays.  She said it got to her so she turned around, went back in and said, "Merry Christmas".  She is seventeen and a Young Life Leader.

Nope, no 'holiday tree" at my house, either.  We are very CHRISTMAS oriented.

Love the new group, Todd!

I have learned to be politcally correct and say,"Happy Holidays."  It keeps everyone happy.

It's always been Merry Christmas for me!!! Even though our tree is artificial, it's still a Christmas Tree, not a holiday tree!!! Thanks,   Fran

I joined the group!  Thanks for starting it.  I love all things Christmas...except standing in long lines outside big box stores.  Merry Christmas, one and all.

Todd, Great idea for a group and I'll bet there are going to be a lot of joiners. I have never been part of the PC movement and don't plan to start.

Todd, Again I am pleased to read a blog post from you. I get so tired of people trying to save me from being offended. Let the rain turn to snow on this one. Merry Christmas my friend...

Todd...  I'm so tired of worrying if I'm going to hurt someones feelings by saying Merry Christmas...  If I know someone is Jewish I say "Happy Hanukkah"...  I even had a Jewish client tell me they want to put up a tree and just call it a "Holiday" tree because they like the lights and don't feel that it diminishes their religious beliefs...  I'm with you and I'm joining the group today!

Posted by Debbie Summers (Charles Rutenberg Realty ) over 9 years ago

Todd - Why is it that we can't accept people for who they are. I used to say "Frohe Weihnachten", which is German, now I say "Merry Christmas". Why do we have to be so careful about what we say. I would not be offended if someone says to me "Happy Hanukkah" or "Happy Kwanzaa".

Posted by Petra Norris, Realtor, Lakeland FL Homes for Sale (Lakeland Real Estate Group, Inc.) over 9 years ago

Todd, We say Merry Christmas To Everyone< but the usual reply is Happy Holidays~maybe we should retort and "A PC season" to you too????

Why would any one be afraid of saying "Merry Christmas" in America and why is it such a big deal for people to say "Happy Holidays"? Why not take the SPIRIT of the greeting rather than trying to make it a civil issue about religion?  I say Happy Holidays because I LIKE IT!!! If you want to wish me a Merry Christmas I'LL TAKE IT as a gesture of good will.

Now, are you going to tell me to drop dead if I wish you HAPPY HOLIDAYS?

Posted by Lynn Krogseng (Keller Williams Premier Partners) over 9 years ago

Todd, I read somewhere that many have tired of the Happy Holidays theme and this year are FINALLY going back to the traditional Merry Christmas. Good for them. I never veered off course myself. I don't get offended though with the Happy Holidays greeting.

Posted by Gary Woltal, Assoc. Broker Realtor SFR Dallas Ft. Worth (Keller Williams Realty) over 9 years ago

Todd, Merry Christmas and God Bless America. Always has been a good thing and I see no need to change what has always brought joy to many.

Good idea on the group!

It's the day after Thanksgiving and a good time to start wishing a Merry Christmas!
